History of a travelling fruit
The banana plant is a herbaceous of musaceae family, from South-East Asia. Its stem grows up in less than one year an can be several meters of height.
During its amazing travel, the fruit changed. In fact, wild species full of black seeds turned into species filled with pulp, due to natural evolution and hybridization.
Nowadays, it’s one of the most eaten fruits round the world.
The banana plant is not a tree, but a huge grass which can be 15 meters of height. It’s the world’s highest grass. In the West-Indies, it is 5 to 6 meters high.
The banana plant is mainly composed of water (90%) and the banana is an energy-giving fruit rich in carbohydrate, vitamin c and potassium.
In the West-Indies, medicinal properties were widely used as diuretic, astringent, and disinfectant in traditional pharmacopoeia.
Modern medicine uses molecules of this fruit to treat heart diseases.
